Happy Valentine´s Day
On February 14th, we celebrated Valentine´s day with the students of 5th A. In the USA, everyone can celebrate Valentine's Day, in order to tell loved ones you care about them: friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. When I was growing up, in elementary school we would make Valentines for everyone in our class. We would also eat these candy hearts with messages on them, like you see in the picture.
So, yesterday in class we made Valentines and wrote a poem in English. This is how we structured the poem:
1st line: noun or name
2nd line: 2 adjectives to describe the noun
3rd line: 3 verbs ending in -ing, that describe what the noun does
4th line: A Valentine´s expression!
For example, we first wrote a Valentine together for Justin Bieber, the famous singer!
It went like this:

Happy Valentine´s Day everyone! I will leave you with some common expressions we use on Valentine´s Day for our loved ones. Post below the meaning in Spanish!
1) I love you
2) Be mine
3) I miss you
4) You are sweet
5) You make me happy
That´s all for now folks. See you next time!

CELEBRATING ANDALUCIA DAY
Hi, Kids!. Vamos a celebrar la festividad de nuestra comunidad autónoma el 23 de Febrero de una forma diferente a como lo venimos haciendo hasta ahora. Siempre hemos celebrado este día mirando a ANDALUCIA. Este año, son los chicos andaluces, los que saldrán fuera, a otro país incluso, y nos contarán en inglés, como ven estos países: ríos, lenguas habladas, monumentos principales, etc.
Por ello hemos llamado a este pequeño proyecto "ANDALUCES AROUND THE WORLD"
Aquí tenemos un ejemplo...¿ Os animáis a hacer vuestro propio "Power Point"

Remembering Peace Day, 2011
Last Friday, the 28th of January, we celebrated Peace Day here at MAR. It was so much fun! Each class prepared a dance to a song related to peace. After our recess, we all went outside to the blacktop, and each class performed their dance in the sun. The parents watched as well! Each class learned a song in English. The first and second graders learned "If you're happy and you know it," and the older children learned "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. Teacher Maria José's class recited a children's peace poem, but in English! Overall, we had a wonderful day. Here are some pictures:
-Here are lyrics to the Bobby Mcferrin song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy"
-The children of 5th and 6th grade made smiley face masks for the performance! On one side, they said "Don't Worry" and on the other they said "Be Happy!"
So then we danced, with our posters and our smiley-face masks!
Our message: Don't Worry, Be happy!
Happy Peace Day everyone!
